Gay Marriage and the Bible

Whenever a social issue of the day—such as same-sex marriage—gets confusing, we can go back to the Bible on the matter, where God reveals His heart. When people don’t know or understand what Scripture says—or if they just reject it outright—moral issues like homosexual marriage can end up destroying their lives. In the face of this reality, it’s sad to say that an increasing number of Christians are approving of gay marriage.

The first appearance and application of something in the Bible is indicative of God’s original intent. This is what’s called the Law of First Mention. One of the first things God established was marriage between one man and one woman. Look at how Adam responded after Eve was introduced to him:

This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

Genesis 2:23

The Bible then goes on to say, “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (Gen. 2:24). So, the first mention of marriage in the Bible is clearly defined, and God blessed it (Gen. 1:26-28). Therefore, according to the Law of First Mention, God’s intent for marriage has been established here.

The Bible also says, in Romans 1:26-27, that people are naturally born heterosexual:

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: [27] And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

When the natural order God established is perverted, violators really do receive the recompense, or fruit, of that perversion, which statistics have proven. A study in the United Kingdom has revealed that homosexuals are about 50% more likely to suffer from depression and engage in substance abuse than the rest of the populations. Some would argue that this is caused by society’s lack of acceptance of homosexuality, but the statistics on health for gays and lesbians do not improve even in more accepting environments. Partner violence also scores higher in homosexual and lesbian couples than with traditional married couples (Bureau of Justice Statistics).

If you are struggling to get free from homosexuality or if you’re looking for answers, contact Janet Boynes’ ministry, Called Out, for encouragement and help.

Andrew has also created a united front for believers to defend the Word of God concerning not only God’s definition of marriage in the Bible but also the sanctity of life. If you want to take a stand with him on these crucial issues, please sign the Declaration of Dependence upon God and His Holy Bible. This is just one way the body of Christ can respond to the ungodliness plaguing our nation.

Marriage equality is the law of the land.

This is not a Christian tyranny.

To Joe Blow,

Marriage equality may be the law of the land but not the law of God. Taxes are also the law of the land , but not the law of God. High rents and low wages are the law of the land but not God. God gave the world to all people to use for their housing for free, not for money , such as the law of the land has instituted. Anyone who does not walk with God , walks with Satan by default and Satan is tyranny not God. God loves you and doesn't want second best for you. Satan through people has perverted not only the land but the law-makers of the land; therefore they are counterfeit laws.

Hey Joe Blow...
This world's wisdom is "foolishness" in God's sight; for it is written, "He snares the wise with their own cunning." I Cor 3:19
"For they sow the wind And they reap the whirlwind. The standing grain has no heads; It yields no grain. Should it yield, strangers would swallow it up." Hosea 8:7

Excellent article. The Word of God is the absolute truth. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. The problem is that people are thinking on wrong thoughts. The devil well plant a thought into someone's mind, but if that person is not rooted and grounded in the Word, they give their attention to those wrong thoughts and battle with them until they finally give in to them. That's why it is so important to renew our minds to God's Word and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ and cast down wrong thoughts and imaginations. I have a son that has been a born again, Spirit filled believer for most of his life, but he gave in to wrong thoughts and now proclaims to be a homosexual and wants nothing to do with God or church. I love my son with all of my heart and always will. I'm standing on God's Word believing for his deliverance. Please stand with me in prayer. Also, remember that the people who are dealing with this are people who are battling with sin. They need love, encouragement, and truth, not us condemning and criticizing them. Love always wins out over hate, but love doesn't mean accepting or ignoring the problem.

M-a-r-r-i-a-g-e concept between a man and a woman has been written to people’s heart and mind across all culture and world nations regardless of religion background since the beginning of time. Certainly there is free will/choice within the 4-wall under 1-roof to have man-man or woman-woman live together, it is not defined as m-a-r-r-i-a-g-e nor the majority core value for this nation. Such poor practice ramifications are too huge able to bring down a nation eventually.

Marriage equality in essence is meant for a man and a woman to be on the level ground: Husband loves his wife and wife respects her husband. But a few people are simply being misled and manipulated by the skewed, demonic world views. Gospel truth is the answer!

God said, "be fruitful and multiply." Everything God created will be fruitful (full of fruit) and will multiply. Every seed produces after it's own kind. Homosexuals cannot multiply and were never meant to be. If the world were homosexual it would end before long. God loves the homosexual but He hates the sin!

We are all born with free will...> We can choose our sin,We cannot choose our consequences. This is left up to each indivudal person,But please read what God says about it,before you make up your mind.

Freedom is the law of the land. Yet we are not free. We have others trying to tell us what to think and what to believe. If we disagree we are wrong. People look to God for answers when they are hurting. They pray for God to help them. They pray for better things. God is a god of love they say. God wants us to be happy. Free love they say. Well, how do they know that God is a god of love, where do they get that information?

When you point out what the bible actually says, they get angry. They say we hate, yet THEY spew hatred. Then they want nothing to do with God anymore. They blaspheme. The bible is out dated, they say. They don't want anything to do with a god that would not want them to have their way in all things.

Unfortunately for them, God WILL judge them, just as he will judge us. Many will hear the dreaded words..."depart from me, I never knew you."

God says to obey the law of the land, as long as it does not go against his law. If the law of the land does go against God's law we are not bound by it. Therefore I do not have to recognize that law.

Proverbs 14:12 & Proverbs 16:25; There is a way which seems right to a man [because he makes his feelings his guide], but the end thereof are the ways of death. If only those caught up in that lie understood Isaiah 30:15-21 that there is one who wants to show them love & mercy and rectify all that is wrong in their life and show them the way, but because of their "feelings" they choose to violate laws that are as sure as the natural laws that make the whole universe run like a time piece and receive the bread of adversity and the water of affliction. Because this world system will only confuse the issue by pushing it on more innocent people, we need to show them the truth through the love of Jesus!

So.. My brother in law is gay and has a boyfriend living with him and this is acceptable out of "being nice' within my wife's entire family.

I on the other hand find the idea deplorable.. Am I a sinner? If not for the grace of God.. and my 100% faith in Jesus sacrifice.... YES.. but.. to decide to be gay.. decide to have a full time boyfriend is a decision fully conscience.. without mistake agreeing to constantly sin.. without repentance or understanding of a fault.. it is oppositely agreeing that it is acceptable to all.. to God.. and I can't accept that..

That said.. I am to have these two over for Easter dinner, Christmas dinner.. Birthdays.. in my house as an acceptable pair..

As a Christian.. I'm not agreeing with it.. but find the putting my foot down about this issue to be such a disruptive family event.. it would cause great harm to all.. I will tell my three kids about this.. one a 4th grader.. and explain I don't agree but be "nice" ... what a wierd situation.. Who has experienced.. what the Holy SPirit tells you in loving the person but hating the sin... how to deal with these people not in the church.. not under the same laws if you will.. but .. I am and my family is.. are we truly accomodating them in agreement or... .. man what a wierd deal I find myself in..

I don't understand how one of my three children can turn to the homosexual life style after being raised in church. I feel so heartbroken that she has married another woman. I have given her several verses that clearly state that this is immoral. Now I am a "hater" in her eyes because I don't agree with her choice and didn't acknowledge her wedding. Please agree and pray with me that God will intervene and open our eyes and hearts.

Thank you for taking the time to share your heart with us. We are standing with you in agreement that your daughter will receive a greater understanding of God's grace and love for her. We believe that a true understanding of grace will not lead people to sin, but rather away from sin. Grace is not an excuse for the flesh, but instead, an empowerment and motivation to live a victorious, Godly life through the power of the Holy Spirit within us.

Titus 2:11 (KJV)
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Grace is strength (2 Cor. 12:9). Grace is provision (2 Cor. 9:8). Grace is power (Acts 4:33). Grace builds us up and gives us our inheritance (Acts 20:32). Grace gives us gifts (Rom. 12:6). Grace gives us consolation and hope (2 Thess. 2:16). Grace is faith and love (1 Tim. 1:14). Grace is mercy and help in time of need (Heb. 4:16). Grace is multiplied unto us through the knowledge of God (2 Pet. 1:2).

We are in agreement with you that your daughter is going to have a strong encounter with God's love and grace for her! We declare with you that every lie and attack of the enemy against her mind is replaced by God's unconditional love and grace for her. Thank you, Father, for placing people in her path that will love her and show grace and truth to her in a way that she will receive. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for comforting her and healing her from any past hurts that she may have experienced. Thank You for guiding and revealing to her what her true identity in Christ is. In Jesus' name we pray, amen!

@GN, you may, also, like to call our prayerline at +1 (719) 635-1111, and one of our prayer ministers would love to pray in agreement with you! Our office is open Monday through Friday from 4:30am-9:30pm (MT). We encourage you to listen to Andrew’s free audio teaching, “God’s Kind of Love Through You.” You can check it out here: In this teaching, Andrew explains how God's love through us compels our loved ones to receive from Him. We are standing with you, @GN. Continue to trust in His faithfulness! - AWMI Team
