Reflection of the Real Me

“What can I do for you, ma’am?”

There was that word again. Ma’am. I’d been hearing it a lot lately. Yes, ma’am. Good morning, ma’am. You’re welcome, ma’am. Although the people saying it are simply being polite, it’s serving as a subtle reminder that I’m not twenty anymore—as if I needed reminding.

Thank goodness, the image I’m seeing in the mirror is not a reflection of the real me. That’s because the real me is a spirit and cannot be seen in a physical mirror. After all, God is a Spirit (John 4:24), and since He created me in His image and after His own kind, I am a spirit too.

I find out what my spirit looks like by gazing into the spiritual mirror, God’s Word. It’s in God’s mirror that I see my spiritual reflection, which looks exactly like God—righteous, holy, pure, without deficit, and full of raising-from-the-dead power.

The problem is, I’m not just a spirit. I have a soul (made up of my mind, will, and emotions) and a body. Unlike my spirit, which is as complete as God’s spirit, my soul and body are in process and always need improvement.

Although I currently have to live in a corrupted body, I’ll one day trade it in for an updated, glorified model. Thank You, Jesus! But I can do something about the state of my mind—part of my soul—right now. In fact, I am commanded to do so in Romans 12:2:

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind [by thinking like God thinks], that ye may prove [manifest] what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.”

Brackets mine

In his book Spirit, Soul & Body, Andrew says,

“It’s your mind, your thoughts, your attitudes that determine whether you experience victory and the life of God [that’s] in your spirit or the defeat and death of the fallen natural realm. Renewing your mind to the Word facilitates your transformation.” (pp. 20-21, brackets mine)

In other words, there’s only one reason that we don’t experience God’s kind of life right here, right now:

Because we don’t think like God thinks.

That’s it.

I’ve had a chronic health issue for several years. Though I have been standing on God’s Word for my healing, I haven’t yet seen the manifestation. Sitting in class one day at Charis, I heard the Holy Spirit speak this to my heart:

Daddy says He’s healed you, and you don’t have to be sick.

I thought, How awesome is that?! I don’t have to be sick!

But wait a minute. If I don’t have to be sick, then why am I
experiencing sickness?

The answer is pretty simple: Regarding my health, I’m not thinking like
God thinks.

Thankfully, I don’t have to wait until I get to heaven to experience healing, victory, and the life of God. As I spend time gazing into God’s mirror and letting His thoughts dominate mine, I can experience heaven on earth!

On a New Path

“I used to think that everything about me was filthy,” admits Sandy Harmon. Sandy had started seeing a Christian counselor to deal with the shame and trauma of becoming a single mother. During one visit, Sandy’s counselor handed her Andrew Wommack’s Spirit, Soul & Body teaching. While listening to it, she heard for the first time the truth about the condition of her spirit. “Andrew taught me that in my spirit, there is no sin, no inadequacy, and no fear. My born-again spirit is just like Jesus’.” This life-changing teaching spurred Sandy on to begin calling the Andrew Wommack Ministries Helpline. Every week she would order free ministry materials provided through AWM partners.

Although Sandy’s relationship with God was stronger than ever, her world was falling apart in the natural realm. “I was spending $300 a month in copays because my kids were always sick. As a single mom, I couldn’t afford it, so I just kept building up credit card debt. I was going to the food pantry because I couldn’t afford groceries. And, on top of all that, I had run up thousands upon thousands of dollars in attorney’s fees for my divorce.”

Frustrated and feeling she had nothing to lose, Sandy decided to take an enormous leap of faith and enroll at Charis Bible College Colorado. As a part of that step of faith, Sandy was believing God for $2,000 to be able to move to Colorado. “One day, about a week before I was going to leave, I sensed in my spirit that money was coming to me that day in the mail,” recalls Sandy. “Sure enough, I found an envelope from my bank in the mail. It was the statement from the money market I’d been living off of. The statement showed that every month there was $1.31 in the account. This particular month, however, showed a balance of $2,466.”

Every day after coming home from Charis, Sandy would pray in tongues for four hours, pulling out what was in her spirit into the natural, and she would speak out scriptures concerning God’s provision. One day, Sandy received a phone call that set her destiny in motion: “I got a call from someone who knew of a real estate agent needing help. The Lord showed me I was supposed to minister to this agent. I met with her, not knowing the situation God was putting me in and not knowing anything about title insurance, which was her business.”

Only a few minutes into their meeting, the agent began pouring her heart out to Sandy about various issues in her life. Knowing who she was in her spirit, Sandy was able to spend the next four hours ministering the goodness and love of God to her. And even though Sandy didn’t know anything about title insurance, she was able to double this agent’s business in a month’s time. In turn, the agent connected Sandy with dozens upon dozens of Realtors with whom she had a relationship. Soon, God led Sandy to formally start her own business. She set up a website and began to seriously market herself as a person who helps Realtors succeed in their businesses.

Now, four years later, Sandy has hired five assistants, as her company is becoming nationally known with clients in Colorado; Florida; Washington, D.C.; Minnesota; and Washington State. A national real estate school contacted her and is paying her to produce training videos for them, and she will get the rights to the marketing material. When asked how her business is doing today, Sandy says, “It’s just supernatural!” Through learning who she was in her spirit all those years ago, Sandy is now able to walk in the abundance God has for her.

Spirit, Soul & Body is one of the teachings that was instrumental in setting Sandy on a new path of success and prosperity. This teaching will help you too. You can also watch Andrew discuss this on his Gospel Truth program. For the full story of Sandy's testimony, go here.

You're Loaded!

Your spirit is filled with so much potential! If God revealed to you how much of that potential goes untapped, it might shock you. Andrew says in his Spirit, Soul & Body book:

You can actually die with all of the power that raised Jesus from the dead sitting untapped within you. It would be like dying of thirst while leaning against a well full of life-giving water. If you’re dominated by what you feel, your soul is agreeing with the natural realm. (p. 13)

A few weeks ago, I was listening to a teaching about living life on assignment. The speaker laid out how your Christian life can be a string of specific tasks God has for you to fulfill if you so choose. Jesus knew at twelve years old what was in Him and what to do with it: “I must be about my Father’s business” (Luke 2:49). Just like Him, you and I have to get on board with the
Father’s business.

Your assignment is whatever God told you to do last, if He hasn’t given you a new assignment. And if you live life focused on that, it positions you for God to unpack your potential. This speaker continued in the teaching, saying, “You’re loaded!” Instantly that phrase stuck in my mind, repeating itself like a broken record. I began to wonder if the Holy Spirit was trying to say something to me.

My mind wandered: I wonder what God wants to unpack in me? How will that look? Is my spirit really “loaded” like this guy says?

My phone chirped, jarring me back to reality.

When the teaching finally ended, I flipped through to the texts on my phone. It was my Bible study teacher, who also happens to be a Third-Year Charis student (shameless plug!). She had sent me a message around the time I was questioning everything. Once the text opened, Psalm 68:19 glowed on my screen: “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.” Then in all caps, she had typed,

My jaw dropped. Okay, God, I got the message!

In his book, Andrew continues in the same vein:

When your soul agrees with your spirit, the life of God in you will manifest itself in your physical body. You’ll experience healing, deliverance, anointing, victory, power, joy, prosperity—on and on it goes. Since most Christians don’t have a working knowledge of spirit, soul, and body, they’re dominated by what they can see, taste, hear, smell, and feel instead of by God’s
Word. (p. 14)

Being dominated by your natural senses will make it difficult to walk in your Father’s business—living on assignment. But if you have given your life to Christ, then guess what? You realize you’re loaded too! Your spirit is bursting at the seams with spiritual gifts, creative ideas, power, hidden treasures, and so much more that God wants to explore with you. Consider this from Andrew’s Spirit, Soul & Body teaching:

I’ve recognized that the Christian life isn’t a process of “getting from God.” Instead, it’s a process of renewing my mind and learning to release what I’ve already received. It’s much easier to release something I’ve already got than to go get something I don’t yet have! (p. 15)

If you’re wondering why things aren’t coming together in your life, then it’s possible you’re not fulfilling the assignment your Father gave you. Discover the potential that He has put in your spirit, and learn how to release it. Andrew’s Spirit, Soul & Body teaching is a practical explanation for how that process works. Please post a comment below if this has blessed you!
